The Bachelor of Science in International Business (BSIB) provides a comprehensive program to develop competencies needed to be a global business leader. The IB Core is: Understanding the Global Business Environment, Business in a Multicultural Environment, and International Business Law. Specialized courses include International Management, International Marketing, International Finance, International Accounting, International Economics, and Emerging Markets.
Students concentrate in one business functional area of their choice and must achieve Intermediate level competency in their second language. The area studies requirement broadens perspectives by taking courses with an international focus outside the College of Business such as Political Science, Geography, Anthropology or History. These can often overlap with general education courses.
Why study international business at Illinois State?
Illinois State University is the only public university in Illinois that offers a major in international business. Our graduates do business around the world using the skills and abilities developed in the IB major. Our alumni work at global and national locations for organizations like Johnson & Johnson, Caterpillar, United Airlines, John Deere, Proctor and Gamble, Nestle, Motorola, Bunge, and multiple government agencies. This does not mean BSIB alumni all leave the state of Illinois however.
International business plays a large role in the economy of the state of Illinois. Exports, imports, and foreign direct investment play a role in creating jobs and generating value that support Illinois individuals and families. Many international businesses have facilities in Illinois and many Illinois based firms have employees throughout the world. Not only do large Illinois businesses participate in the international economy, but many small and medium sized businesses from Illinois also have a large portion of their activities crossing borders outside the United States. It is important to recognize that graduates with international business skills are needed to support the key role of international trade in the economy of Illinois, across the US and around the world.
