Organizational Leadership

Graduate Certificate in Organizational Leadership

The Graduate Certificate in Organizational Leadership provides students with a graduate-level experience in the topic of organizational leadership and addresses critical elements of the leadership function in contemporary organizations.

This certificate requires 12 credit hours for completion.

Required:

  • MQM 421 | Organizational Behavior - A study of how people in organizations respond to managerial and organizational practices, using a systems orientation to analyze how environmental factors influence organizational practices and climate

  • MQM 482 | Organizational Leadership - An in-depth examination of leadership including the impact of leadership on organizations and the characteristics of effective leadership. Topics include: the role and impact of leaders in organizations, historical and theoretical foundations of leadership, and current leadership best practices.

Pick two courses from:

  • MQM 440  | The Dynamics of Negotiation - An approach to building understanding regarding the range of negotiation skills that are necessary resulting from the variety of problems faced by managers and leaders in business contexts. 
  • MQM 483  | Applied Organizational Leadership - An advanced study of leadership and the roles of leaders in organizations. Topics include: leadership and change, building and leading effective work teams, and leadership and culture.
  • MQM 484 | Building High Performance Organizations - A study of the role of leadership in creating high performance organizations. Topics include: leadership and human motivation, building employee engagement, and the role of HR practices in high performance organizations.

University Admission Requirements

A student applying to the Graduate Certificate in Organizational Leadership program must:

  • have earned a four-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a college or university that is accredited by the appropriate regional accrediting association, or do so within one academic year

Additional Program Admission Requirements

  • Current resume highlighting accomplishments and at least one year of relevant professional experience
  • Statement of purpose addressing your interests and what you hope to gain professionally after completing this certificate
  • Two letters of recommendation, at least one must be a professional from a current or immediate place of employment
