The Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management sponsors risk management and insurance (RMI) organizations for students interested in RMI and actuarial science. The organizations include Gamma Iota Sigma, with ours being the Alpha Kappa Chapter of the international organization, and the Actuarial Club. Our Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS) chapter is one of many chapters of the nationally recognized professional fraternity, and the Actuarial Club is part of our Gamma Chapter. GIS and the Actuarial Club are important in enhancing the professional development of students interested in a career in the risk management and insurance industry.
GIS hosts numerous events each semester including social activities, community service projects, workshops, and industry related events. Speakers from the industry are featured at chapter meetings to provide "real-world" insight about current issues in risk management and insurance. The GIS Chapter works to provide opportunities for students to build a well-rounded resume and to be attractive to industry recruiters with the highly regarded skill sets and experiences needed to be successful. These meetings and social events also provide students with opportunities to interact and network with business professionals on a less formal basis.
The GIS Alpha Kappa Chapter's mission is to set members apart by providing opportunities for interaction with industry professionals. We aspire to create awareness of internships and career opportunities in the fields of risk and insurance.
All students interested in risk management and insurance are strongly encouraged to join Gamma Iota Sigma. Membership in GIS not only makes the student eligible for scholarships and awards, but also makes the student eligible to submit a resume on the Katie School website
You get out what you put into it!
