Katie School Scholarships
Many scholarship opportunities are available for students through the Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management. The awards may be offered by the Katie School or external scholarships that are linked on our website. Each year the Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management provides and facilitates over $150,000 in merit-based scholarships and awards. Students are recognized at the annual Student Recognition Dinner in the Spring.

The various named scholarship and criteria associated with each are listed below. They are awarded on an annual basis through the Katie School Scholarship Program and application process.
Andrew T. Nappi International Study Grant - to recognize the Founding Director of the Katie School and former Dean of the College of Business
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.50
- Junior standing
- Demonstrated commitment to pursuing a professional career in the field of insurance and risk management
- Leadership role in Gamma Iota Sigma and/or authorized College of Business student organization
- Essay explaining how the study grant will help further the applicant's education and professional care
David Lockton Katie School Hall of Fame Scholarship - to honor him as the 2014 Katie School Hall of Fame Laureate
- Majors or minors in Risk Management and Insurance
- Demonstrate academic and personal achievement with specific requirements determined annually by the Katie School
Edward B. Rust, Jr. Katie School Hall of Fame Scholarship - to honor his legacy of providing leadership to the insurance industry and as the 2016 Katie School Hall of Fame Laureate
- Majors or minors in Risk Management and Insurance
- Demonstrate academic and personal achievement with specific requirements determined annually by the Katie School
Gerald E. Myers Endowed Scholarship - to honor his legacy as a longtime Chicago area insurance executive who was a past president of The CPCU Society and devoted his life to insurance education and professionalism
- Recognizing commitment to CPCU exams and the designation
- Candidates to be restricted to residents of Cook and the collar counties of DuPage, McHenry, Lake, Will and Kane
- Based on financial need
ISAHU-Gregory Smith Memorial Insurance Scholarship - to help prepare the next generation of insurance professionals for the next generation of insurance professionals
- Majoring in Risk Management and Insurance and new incoming students or students in their freshman, sophomore or junior year of study
- Demonstrating involvement and leadership in school and/or community activities including substantial work and volunteer history
J. Patrick Gallagher, Jr. Scholarship - to attract and retain the most academically talented students and to honor him as the 2018 Katie School Hall of Fame Laureate
- Major in Risk Management and Insurance with preference and special consideration for students in RMI and Sales
- Must be freshman, sophomore, junior or senior
Katie School Alumni Scholarship - to engage other ISU alumni and friends who benefitted from the programs and support provided by the Katie School to continue the tradition of excellence by providing financial contributions to benefit current students
- Major or minor in Risk Management and Insurance and new incoming students or students in their freshman, sophomore or junior year of study
- Demonstrate involvement and leadership in school and/or community activities, including substantial work history
Mark Loveall Insurance Scholarship - to support students majoring or minoring in Risk Management and Insurance
- Major or minor in Risk Management and Insurance
- Demonstrate academic and personal achievement with specific requirements determined annually by the Katie School
Mark Willis Scholarship - to honor Mark's legacy of providing leadership to the insurance industry and provide financial support to attract and develop the next generation of industry leaders

- Demonstrate academic and personal achievement with specific requirements determined annually by the Katie SchoolMarkel Specialty Scholarship - to enhance diversity of the RMI program at the
Markel Specialty Scholarship - to enhance the diversity of the Risk Management and Insurance program by providing financial assistance to a student meeting the following criteria:
- Major in Risk Management and Insurance
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Demonstrate financial need
- Junior standing
- Personal statement on commitment to leadership and share personal experiences including in the areas of diversity and inclusion
Nanette T. Meyer Scholarship - to honor her passion for the insurance industry
- Major in Risk Management and Insurance with a demonstrated interest in underwriting and in their sophomore, junior or senior year of study
- Demonstrate academic and personal achievement with specific requirements determined annually by the Katie School
Nierstheimer-Gurtner-Giese Family Endowed Scholarship - to honor the children and families of Carl Nierstheimer as well as his wife with the two generations having combined careers of almost 300 years in the insurance industry
- Majors or minors in Risk Management and Insurance
- Demonstrate academic and personal achievement with specific requirements determined annually by the Katie School
Patrick G. Ryan Endowed Scholarship - to honor his legacy of providing leadership to the insurance industry and as the 2012 Katie School Hall of Fame Laureate
- Majors or minors in Risk Management and Insurance
- Demonstrate academic and personal achievement with specific requirements determined annually by the Katie School
Rockford Mutual Insurance Endowed Scholarship - to encourage students to pursue educational opportunities in both Risk Management and Insurance and Sales programs at Illinois State University
- Major in Risk Management and Insurance with coursework in Marketing or the Professional Sales sequence
- Demonstrate financial need
- Freshman, sophomore, junior or senior
