Each year through a grant provided by the Spencer Educational Foundation, the Katie School hosts one risk manager from the insurance industry to further educate students and discuss various topics with faculty and staff. The risk manager holds an hour-long session one of the two evenings in residence for students and anyone else interested in the industry. This session generally consists of an in-depth look at what the professional's specific position entails, as well as pertinent issues dealt with in his/her department.
Claims, litigation, and liability are topics covered, and their incorporation with the risk manager position is also covered. In addition, these subjects are presented to students in the classroom as the risk manager gives presentations to them throughout the stay. All of the above give students the capabilities to learn about risk management firsthand from a professional, and a deeper sense of knowledge about the insurance industry as a whole.
