We actually have a summer camp for the high schoolers – a summer insurance camp and people laugh at that, often, ‘Who would come to an insurance camp in the summer?’ Well, we’ve got 20 kids from all over the U.S. that come to this. These are, perhaps, not your typical high school students. They’re a little more serious about life. They’re moving into their senior year and they’re wondering what they’re going to do 12 months from now. We bring them in for a week, and quite honestly the number one goal that we have is that they have a good time – that they have fun at Illinois State University. We want them to learn something. We want them to find out more about our industry; what we have to offer; if it’s the right career path for them. But, at the end of the week when the dust settles we want them to go home feeling good about their experience – more knowledgeable, more capable, and if we can get them to have the warm fuzzies about the Katie School, Illinois State University and the College of Business in particular then we feel we’ve done all we can do. That’s what our goal is.”

“It was a lot of fun, definitely. I got to meet a lot of people from all over, like Pennsylvania and New York. I wasn’t expecting that. But I learned a lot about, well risk management. I kind of didn’t really know what I was going into, and I was kind of scared that I wasn’t going to be smart enough. But I got here and it was really fun and there were a lot of cool people and I’m really glad I came.”

“Well I think what I know about insurance and business has increased so much. I mean – I didn’t really know how premiums were determined; I didn’t know when it was really important to insure; and there’s just all these things that I hadn’t thought about that I suddenly started to consider.”
Jackie Olmos-Silverman
“I definitely feel like I’ve learned a lot about risk management, about business, and I feel like I’ve gained another 20 friends. So it… it was just really awesome.”
