The risk management and insurance program at the Katie School offers an excellent classroom education for students pursuing careers in risk management and insurance. This is complemented with outstanding experiences outside of class to further develop our students through activities in the corporate sector.
Interaction with our industry partners is an important hallmark of the Katie School. Advisory Board Member Companies are invited to host Katie School students at their companies to allow students to job shadow and learn more about the industry in an out-of-the-classroom atmosphere. The students are immersed in the corporate culture and have a better understanding of the working environment.
Valuable knowledge is gained during these visits through an insight into specific roles, and a deeper look into how an insurance company operates internally greatly benefits the students. It also allow the companies to spend time with these future candidates to be considered for roles within the organization. These experiences are a favorite of our students.
Numerous industry professionals speak to classes and share experiences with students and faculty. Over 90 companies recruit students on-campus each year offering career and internship opportunities. Scholarships provided by companies and organizations are awarded to outstanding risk management and insurance majors and minors with more than $150,000 awarded annually.
Additionally, Advisory Board Member Companies may schedule a day on campus to meet with Gamma Iota Sigma officers and members over lunch or dinner, speak in classes, have a booth in the atrium, and have an informational session to provide information internships and career opportunities. Networking is available throughout the day for students with the industry guests to learn more in-depth about career paths and the organization.
